Understanding wida tier Testing
Students in grades 1-12 are given a tier A, B, or C test based on their language proficiency level. As shown by their previous ACCESS or W-APT test, and their reading level.
Tier A is generally given to students who have recently entered the US or who are performing at the lowest proficiency levels.
Tier B Test is for students who have acquired some language proficiency, but not extensive academic language. These students generally are not at grade level literacy yet.
Tier C Test is for students who are working at or approaching grade level literacy. These students are likely to test out of the ESL program by the end of the school year.
As shown by their previous ACCESS or W-APT test, and their reading level.
Visit WIDA for additional information about ACCESS for ELLs tier placement.
